American Institute Of Architects: Design In Healthy Living

Combining health and design can generate health solution to the issue of obesity. Obesity is proving to be a major health problem in the country. A large number of young people are battling this problem. It is a problem that has drawn the attention of the medical practitioners and the government as well. The increasing cases of obesity may result in unmitigated health problems in the future and a large section of the population that is unproductive. The country is therefore keen to come up with a solution that may work in the long term. So far methods which have been used have not contributed anything significant in the war against obesity.

The use of design in solving obesity epidemic is still in its infant level, and more research work needs to be done. According to AIA CEO Robert Ivy, there is a need for the medical schools to work together with the architectural schools to come up with a comprehensive solution to the problem. Undergraduate level training needs to be merged for some courses so that these two fields can share ideas, architects need to learn something about healthy living, and the doctors need to learn something about healthy design. They can then come together to create a common solution.

A collaboration of these two fields will enable future design work to be done with the health of the people issuing the facility in mind. People need to have access to recreational facility and paths where they can jog or do bicycle riding such exercises will go a long way in handling the issue.

Robert Ivy reveals that already the College of Architecture at Texas Tech University have started courses that will assist them to design healthy facilities. There is specialization in design and health. In Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson University, design thinking is already being taught to the medical student. Essentially, were are at that stage where this is practically beginning to happen. It is a topic that is being appreciated by professional, and hopefully, in the near future, we will see some progress in the medical facility. The institutional have designed a four-year course that will see students learn how to incorporate design into their medical practice.

Other institutions are also starting to embrace this approach. In future, we will have a generation of architects and medical doctors who have advanced training in healthy design. There is hope that the future generation will be able to deal with issues of obesity in a better way. A breakthrough in medical design will not only affect those with obesity; it will bring other medical conditions onboard.

The American Institute of Architect is an non-government organization that constitutes all of the professionals working in the architectural industry in America. The organization was founded in 1857 and was established with the focus on developing and improving the sector. When the organization was founded, the industry didn’t have any qualification requirements for people working in the sector. Almost anyone could become an architect, which resulted in a number of sub-par projects which cost the country a lot of money and resources. The organization pushed for the establishment of degrees and courses for people who wanted to enter into the field of architecture, which created a huge amount of development to the field as a whole.
