A word from our Pastor
Hello! I am Mark Horne, Pastor here at Norris Hill, PCA. I want to personally invite you to visit us during any one of our services. We definitely will be glad you came.
You know, in life we all have struggles and concerns about the direction that we are heading. Just like you, I face these every day. Yet, there is an answer and a peace that one can receive from a personal relationship with God. Let me briefly share with you what I mean.
If you are like most people, you work hard at life. You work to provide for your family food, shelter, and clothes. You work to have nice things. You probably even work to be the best person you can be and expect others to do the same. The main focus you have is on you and yours. And for all of your work, you expect reward, if not now, maybe when you die. So you just want to stay on track and head in the right direction.
Jesus talked with a woman with the same kind of concern. The work she was focused on was drawing water from a well for herself, her family, and possibly even the flocks that her family tended. In addition to this, she was an adulteress. Jesus offered her a life of peace and security. A life provided with living water. With this the woman got excited. Now she would never have to draw from this well again and she would never get thirsty.
She was right in the fact that she would never get thirsty and draw from the well, but it wasn’t the well she was thinking. Jesus offered her Himself. Jesus offered her what He came from heaven to earth to do, and that is to be a living sacrifice for mankind from the beginning of time to whenever it will end. And it is the peace that we find in Him that assures us of our eternity.
Are you going to heaven when you die? If you think that being good and working hard will give a deserving reward, I hope to change your mind. God tells us that in order to go to heaven, one must be born again (John 3:3). This begins by recognizing that we are broken and unfulfilled in our life (Rom 3:23). Because of our brokenness, we have Jesus’ offer of living water. Jesus fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophecies and kept every one of its Laws because He knew we couldn’t. He bore our sin and was punished by dying in our place so that we could have eternal life (Rom 5:8). Jesus substituted himself for us.
To receive eternal life we only have to do one simple thing, that is believe in Him. Believe Jesus was the Son of God, who never sinned, died in your place, was buried, and resurrected. It is so simple, yet it is the hardest thing for a lot of people to do. By Christ’s blood we are assured an everlasting life (Rom 10:13). It is a matter of faith.
If you have read my message this far I believe God is working in your heart. You are being called by His sovereign grace and He will give you the ability to make the next step, and that is to receive His gift. How? You might be asking. Pray this prayer:
“God, please forgive me of my sins. I recognize that I am a broken person in need of your grace. I believe in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross for my sins. I ask You to enter my life right now and give me the life of living water. Provide me with the strength as I commit my life to You this day. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
If God brought you into His family today, welcome! I want to personally know so please contact me either by email (Rev. Mark Horne, Pastor), letter, or phone. What would be better is if you would visit one of our worship services. We at Norris Hill want to help you get started as you begin this life of commitment to our Savior. May the peace that passes all understanding be with you.
In Christ,
Mark |
